Introduction

Josephine Hupp was born Aug 2nd. 1903 in Budapest, Hungary. The Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Gumbas. She moved with her parents to Chicago when she was a child. Later they moved to Free Soil Michigan where she attended the local school. She eventually moved to Southern California and sometime in the early 1920's she was working at one of the movie Studios as a secretary in Burbank CA.

One day, as she told it, someone came into the office and asked if they could take her picture for an ad for Sun Maid Raisin Co. She agreed and was paid $50.00 for the photo. She was given the original photo and negative which her granddaughter still possesses.
